Wayne founded the project in 2019, cumulating some 15 years in remote island energy design with deployments around the world. After an experience with the remarkable Emily Penn where he helped prepare her research yacht for eXXpedition, the world circumnavigation to study ocean plastic, there was a profound calling to do more for the ocean.
"This is our research and outreach project, a constantly evolving ambition to sail further with a leave no trace policy, the project brief is to simply promote collaboration, adventure, education and science. We are seeking a greater understanding of the impact we have on the ocean, and its impact on us, by exploring the limits of our technical achievements and raising awareness on a changing ocean we can better influence our decision making on land"
Wayne is a respected marine and renewable energy engineer with long standing affiliations with some of the leading developers of new generation technologies. He is an agent for the award winning Oceanvolt electric motor technology, a long standing partner of Victron Energy and founded the yacht modernisation service Sail Electric. He contributes to 1% to the planet, acts as an ambassador for the Royal Yachting Association's Green Blue campaign and the Ocean Conservation Trust as well as supporting local schemes and initiatives within the UNESCO North Devon Biosphere Reserve.
He has sailed since a young boy, from dinghies to tall ships, now sailing the 100% electric yacht "Nazca". Our Contessa 34 Offshore has sailed thousands of miles without the need for diesel. From her bases in Falmouth and North Devon she was the first vessel of her kind to sail the Bristol Channel, is a continually gathering data and holds some the most impressive credentials for net zero sailing for her class.
Wayne holds regular talks and demonstrations to inspire a change in mindset. He and his team provide insight to operators, industry and academia on next generation sailing ethos and technology, through consulting, designing and deploying next generation energy concepts by design, on land and at sea to clients around the world we aim to help forge a better future.
For the ocean.
